Universal Power Supply

A singly supply rectifier followed by a CRC/CLC filter. This is my workhorse PCB. It is used in almost all my projects.

Features:

  • Dimensions: 100x100mm
  • Mounting Holes: M3 screws in a 90x90mm square.
  • 2-Layer FR4 board with a red solder mask, white silkscreen, and HASL finish.
  • 2.1mm wirepads
  • It supports two capacitors with 10mm lead spacing and a diameter between 20 and 40mm. Also supports 5-pin variants.
  • Alternatively, it supports two capacitors with 22.5±0.5mm screw terminals. These should be mounted upright and below the PCB so that the vent falls on the opening and is not obstructed
  • It supports TO247-3 AKA, TO220 and plain axial rectifying diodes. The middle pin of the TO247-3 footprint is the Cathode.
  • It supports up to two power resistors with max 10mm width and a max length of either 20 or 60mm. It works nicely with 18 and 50mm resistors.
  • It also offers wirepads for a Choke in case you want a CLC configuration.
  • Offers DC input wirepads incase you want to use it without the rectification.
  • Supports a Quasimodo-style Snubber
  • Offers a bleeder resistor and a led indicator.
  • Offers three sets of output
  • Offers a floating design so that you can put in series as many as you want and earth/ground any voltage point you want.

This is just an indicative list of parts that are known to fit and work with the PCB for a First Watt amp style PSU. Please consult the Feature List for further details on how to choose parts for your own application. Please contact me if you are unsure if a part will fit.

The parts are for a single PSU. If you need dual Voltage, then you need two PCBs and double the parts below.

4x Rectification Diodes D1, D2, D3, D4
FEP30DP-E3/45 30A 200V
Make sure that you size these correctly, taking into account not only operating current, but also inrush.

2x Power Resistors R1, R2 or R3, R4:
Vishay RS 200mOhms 10W
Two in parallel will give 0.1R that is also a convenient value for current measurement.

2x Electrolytic Capacitors C1, C2

1x Bleeder Resistor R5
Vishay PR 4.7K 3W
Any 4.7K resistor at 3W will do.

1x Led Resistor R6
Vishay RN60 10K 250mW
Any 10K resistor at 0.25W will do.

1x Led L1
Kingbright T1-3mm
Any standard 3mm led will do
